Entry into Armed forces after LASIK / PRK surgery? Can it be medically detected if it was done?

RAJ K asked:

I wanna know about the chances of getting into Armed forces(Even Flying duty) after a LASIK or PRK surgery. I have a slight problem with my Eye (Astigmatism of < 1) so i want to explore these procedures as i am planning to join the forces. Please share with me if its acceptable if undergo any of this and declare it at the time of joining. Also let me know Can it be medically detected if it was done (may be around 6 months) before joining but I decide not to declare it voluntarily? If yes is there any way to prevent that as I am really lookin forward to be serving in the Forces(Even Air Force or Navy). Which one is less prone to be detected? Or is it OK if I declare it before joining so that they may give me a chance as my vision is not so bad.

Also it will be helpful if you can suggest some Natural / Alternative methods to correct or improve my vision. It will be helpful If u share yours or your friendz experiences in this regard.

Thanks in Advance.

why don’t you join and then let them pay for Lasic? My hubby’s eyes are kinda bad but the Army got him glasses and he has talked about getting Lasic so he can fly.

I have a friend in the Marines and they paid for his PRK surgery (like the above poster said). So I agree: wait and let them do it for you. They are so desperate for willing recruits, they’d probably have a PRK party for you.

And yes, it is medically detectable. But I don’t think they are looking that closely right now. You should see some of the shumcks they are accepting…
